Layman of the Year

The Layman of the Year program was started to recognize men who have shown extraordinary dedication to the missions of Jesus Christ. The selection is accomplished by the last three Laymen of the Year. They base their judgment on nominations from laymen and pastors of our region. The input to selection committee is solely from the nomination sheets. This means that the nominations should be well written and in detail. Nominations have been received that say no more than the nominee loves God, and is a “nice guy”. I hope this would apply to everyone reading this article. You will help your nominee to be selected by showing how he stands out by his unique service to our Lord and his neighbors.

Congratulations to the 2015 Layman of the Year - Mr. George F. Young!

On Saturday evening, the American Baptist Men of Pennsylvania and Delaware honored Mr. George F. Young as the 2015 Layman of the Year. George has been a faithful servant of the Lord for
many years.

George was joined by his church family from Parkesburg and we join them in offering our sincere congratulations. An honor well, deserved.

Join us in congratulating George!

How is the Layman of the Year Chosen?

Each year, just prior to our Annual Retreat, a special layman is selected to be named the Layman of the Year for our American Baptist Men of PA & DE region.

This honor is bestowed on the layman after recommendations by other lay persons and members of the ministry have been reviewed.

He is judged on his

  • Personal Character
  • Relationship
    to God
    to Family
    to Fellowman
  • Commitment to service and leadership in
    his Church
    his Denomination
    his Community

You can download the recommendation form in PDF format here.  Fill it out with as much information as possible (use extra pages if needed!) and mail it to the address on the form.

Do your friend a favor!!! Look around your church and men's fellowship for an outstanding Christian man who meets the above qualifications and deserves your recommendation. Names submitted are in consideration for three years. If at first your suggestion is not selected, resubmit his name at a future date.
