The objectives of American Baptist Men
The basic objective of American Baptist Men is to lead men into a vital relationship to Jesus Christ as savior and to enlist men in serving him as lord of their lives by:
- Enlisting men to actively support the primary work of the local congregation.
- Training and involving men in understanding what commitment as a disciple of Jesus Christ can mean as a guiding force in their lives.
- Regularly involving men in sharing their individual faith through small groups, evangelistic outreach and service.
- Encouraging men to become a supporting arm for the pastor in the overall work and mission of the local congregation.
- Advancing and supporting the wider work and program of the American Baptist Churches of the USA , and its cooperating agencies.
Relationships
The Area VPs are elected for a one-year term not to exceed five terms at the annual retreat by ABMOPAD.
The Area VP is a member of ABMOPAD board of managers.
Area of work
The Area VP is to propose plans and programs for involving all men of the churches in all areas of Christian life, both through word and deed.
The Area VP is to find or suggest ways that the action and support of the American Baptist Men can be interwoven into all programs and activities of the region, association and local church.
General responsibilities
- Become familiar with the constitution of American Baptist Men
- Use the file of material supplied by his predecessor.
- Collect current materials for use in his work.
- Handle all correspondence promptly.
- Cooperate and work with the president and other members of the board of managers of the ABMOPAD as we earnestly strive to lead men into a more evangelistic style of life.
- Use and encourage men to use American Baptist and other recommend materials.
- Belong to and promote booster club of ABMOPAD.
- Attend and encourage attendance at area/association, region/state/city and national meetings.
- Attend all called meetings of ABMOPAD board of managers. Advise the president of expected absence, promptly.
- Serve as a resource person for emphasis of the ABMOPAD goals and objectives.
- Serve in his church to interpret the work of national/region/state/city ABM.
- Suggest manes of potential men’s leaders to the nominating committee.
- Pray regularly for the work of American Baptist Men and provide Christian leadership in the attainment of their purposes and objectives.
Specific responsibilities
- Encourage active involvement of men in functions of the local congregations and promote the organization of men’s fellowships within his area
- Maintain an up-to-date list of pastors, key laymen and officers of men’s fellowships in his area for use of the president and Board of Managers ABMOPAD. (parish plans)
- Promote attendance at the annual retreat of the ABMOPAD.
- Assist in planning and preparation of the program for the annual retreat of the ABMOPAD at board of managers meetings.
- Serve on committees as designated by the president of the board of managers.
- Serve as host and/or perform such duties as assigned by the president of ABMOPAD at the annual retreat.
- Support the work and attend meeting s related to ABM, American Baptist churches and interdenominational functions of Christians in his area when possible.
- Cooperate with and support the work of American Baptist pastors in his area.
