"Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant...For the Son of Man came not to be
served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom
for many."
Mark 10:43-45 (NRSV)
American Baptist Men Disaster Relief Ministry seeks to serve
those affected by federally declared disasters, in cooperation
with ABC National Disaster Response, ABC Regions, and the wider
disaster response community.
In so doing we further fulfill our Christian mission by demonstrating the compassion of Christ and the ministry of wholeness and renewal.
The Disaster Relief Trailer Ministry has been busy since the Men's conference at Shippensburg University. A big thank you to Bob Riley and friends at Christ American Baptist Church for their support in helping maintain the trailer and getting it ready for its next ministry. The trailer is now in Pittsburgh area at the First Baptist Church McKees Rocks. Besides the flooding at the church, there are also over 4,000 homes in that area which are in need of help one way or another.
When disaster strikes, who will
help?
When disaster strikes, who will help?
Your community has just been devastated by a disaster such as a flood or hurricane. Your home has sustained major damage. You and your family are living in a temporary shelter. City services are taxed beyond their limits. Where do you turn for help?
American Baptist Men Disaster Relief has emergency response teams across the United States poised and ready to respond to such a situation. Upon the declaration of a federal disaster, the closest team is dispatched, as well as the ABM Disaster Relief Trailer. Together they are on the scene within 48 hours.
Working in cooperation with the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Church World Service, these volunteers trained in disaster relief assist with such things as clean up, minor repairs, and rebuilding. This is an immediate short-term response, up to eight weeks.
ABMen Disaster Relief is Mission In Action! Christ by His example set the pattern for us to follow. He instructed us in our mission to share His love through the role of the servant.
ABMen Disaster Relief is a ministry for all American Baptists. You can be a part of this ministry and join the work of dedicated Christians who have expanded their circle of concern. You can become involved in meeting the crucial needs of disaster victims in the name of Jesus Christ.
The servant role takes on a whole new meaning when you respond to the needs of disaster victims. You become personally involved in helping hurting people. We become not just a people who talk of missions but a people who put our words into action.
If you'd like to speak with our Disaster Relief Coordinators, you can go to our contact page for their information. Bob Riley or Bob Swan would love to hear from you.

The mission of the Disaster Relief trailer is being expanded. Not only is the trailer to be used for natural disasters, but we are looking to offer the trailer for large church or mission projects in Pennsylvania and Delaware. If your men's group, church or association has a need for the trailer or the equipment for a long-term project, give Bob Swan a call to see if the project qualifies.
Men who attended the 50th annual retreat were able to stop by the Disaster Relief Trailer and talk to Bob Riley, Co-Director of Disaster Relief for ABMOPAD. They were able to look at the improvements and hear about our future plans.
Because of recent storm activity in Central N.J., we
are planning to expand our Pennsylvania and
Delaware Disaster Ministry to embrace our
Christian Brothers in New Jersey.
Please keep in mind that we offer the Disaster
Trailer to come on site and assist you in approved
work projects that your church has or plans to
undertake. We want to utilize this trailer ministry for
the benefit of all ABCOPAD and PBA churches.
For details talk to Bob Swan or Bob Riley.
Members of our Disaster Relief team are available
