The position of ABMOPAD Area Vice President is one that deserves some "special" mention.
The duties of an Area Vice President include establishing and maintaining contacts with the men and men's groups in his assigned Associations, being a source of information about AB Men's ministries for the men of his Area, serving as an advocate of Men's Ministries and helping with various assigned tasks at the Retreat and throughout the year.
At present the Board is attempting to reorganize the areas that the Area Vice Presidents are covering in order to allow better correlation between our organization and the organization of the denomination's regional staff. One Area VP was assigned three Associations, each of which was served by a different Area Minister. This reorganization should make the jobs of the Area Vice Presidents easier and allow us to work more closely with the denominational staff. Additionally, the plan calls for two more Area VPs so the work will be spread a little thinner and allow us to better serve the men of our areas.
There is one big problem with this reorganization plan. If you look down over the contact list for the Board of Managers you will see some vacancies -- they are all Area Vice President positions. Those positions are currently being covered by other Board members who are not Area VPs, thus making double work for them.
There are ways that the Board of Managers is looking to help resolve or mitigate this problem. First, a look at the Board of Managers organizational chart will show that the Area VP positions are at the "bottom" of the official organization. An Area VP position is the logical entry point position for anyone interested in getting involved in working on the Board of Managers. If you have any interest at all in being involved this way, please contact Fred Robbins, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, even if the Area VP position is filled in your area. Area VPs are required to cycle off and also, while in the position, are happy (read "ecstatic") to have helpers.
Secondly, we would like, if at all possible, to have "mini-boards" in each area consisting of at least one contact person from each Association. This would be an unofficial position with no term limits or obligations but would give the Association contacts an opportunity to be involved in ministry to the men of their Association in some of the ways that an Area VP is in a slightly larger context. This will also give the Area VP someone to go to for information concerning the Association and its member churches and men and opportunities to better serve in that context.
